Commissions

A custom piece of fine art is a lovely way to add a distinctive touch to elevate a space. Whether it’s for yourself or a loved one, it would be my pleasure to work with you in creating an ensoscape that is uniquely tailored to you or for that special someone.

I like to get to know my clients during our collaboration. Understanding how you connect to enso art helps me in my process to best reflect what you want your painting to represent. On top of a beautiful one-of-a-kind custom painting to decorate your space, it will also carry a deeper meaning for you to connect to mindfulness, healing and inner peace - a friendly reminder to be present, to be inspired by your own strength and to find calm in the chaos.

I accept a limited amount of commission requests per year.

Below you’ll find the information you need to prepare you for a commission. Once you’re ready, fill out the Commission Request Form to begin your process. I look forward to working with you!

Sumi-e Reflections

For enso art on paper, your request must stay true to the minimalism, simplicity and elegance of sumi-e art: a black enso against a white background, with the artist’s name seal stamped in red. We can also discuss adding my signature styles of The Kintsugi Enso or The Clarity Enso, if desired. Your enso is drawn in sumi ink on a high quality watercolor or acrylic paper. Sumi-e art on rice paper is currently not offered. To discover the meaning behind my signature styles, click here.

Your art will have my name seal in the front and be signed in the back. A Certificate of Authenticity is included. My prices for sumi-e reflections begin at $150 CAD. The process and turnaround time for this type of commission request differs than what’s in place for acrylic paintings. If interested, please complete the Commission Request Form for more information.

Placement & Size

Consider where you want your commissioned painting to be displayed. Are you making a statement in a high traffic area or will it be placed in a more intimate setting? Once you figure out the space your painting will live in, you can determine the size. I accept commission requests of 12”x12” and larger.

Inspiration

Take a look at my portfolio and available collections for some ideas. Which of my signature styles inspire you the most? Is there a particular painting that speaks to you? Was your favorite painting from a collection sold and you’d like something similar with an added personal touch for a deeper connection?

Do you have an idea in mind and would love to see what I can do with it? Let’s talk about it!

Not sure where to start? I can help! What 3 colors come to mind when you feel calm and peaceful? From those 3 colors, which one are you drawn to the most? What’s the vibe you want your painting to have? Are you looking for a soothing elegance or an edgy sophistication?

Let’s look at the bigger picture. What colors are your walls and furniture? How’s the lighting throughout the day? What’s the overall mood of the space? The more information you can provide me (pictures are welcome!), the more I can get a better sense of how to approach your painting.

Consultation

Once you submit your application, a free 20-minute consultation via video/phone call will be scheduled to determine if we’d be a good fit to work together. This is a great time for us to get acquainted, for me to answer your questions and to discuss ideas. If we’re a good fit, I’ll send you a quote for the commissioned painting as well as a contract for you to sign.

Pricing & Turnaround Time

Pricing for commissions are generally higher than collection prices. This takes into consideration the time and attention that will be dedicated to the thorough process of our collaboration. My commission prices start at $375 CAD. A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to secure your commission spot, with the remaining balance + shipping fees due once your commissioned painting is completed. Local pickup is available for Greater Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

The turnaround time to complete a commission is 10-12 weeks, depending on the size and complexity of the project as well as the number of commissions in line ahead of yours.

Painting Process

Throughout the commission process, I’ll maintain artistic direction of the project. This allows me to fully tap into my creativity, while ensuring I stay true to my style and work within my ability.

Your commission begins once the deposit and signed contract are received. Based on what we discussed, I’ll prepare one to three sketches for you to decide which one to proceed with for your custom painting.

An important note on drawing the enso:

  • The enso is drawn in a single continuous brushstroke to capture its authenticity in the very moment it is created. This makes it exceptionally unique because you can never recreate the same enso twice. Each enso is truly one-of-a-kind, forever locking the essence of the moment it is drawn. For this reason, the sketched and final enso will vary. Nevertheless, I’ll capture the emotion that is genuine to what you want your painting to represent. By commissioning me, you’re accepting this disclaimer about how the enso is authentically drawn.

I’ll gladly send you some updates throughout the process. Please note that any progress shot or video of your commission may be shared on my social media. Your confidentiality is important to me. You’ll remain anonymous… unless you want me to tag you, of course!

Once the painting is completed, I’ll send you a photo of the finished piece for your approval. Your commissioned painting comes signed, Chinese name sealed and wired so that it’s ready to hang upon receipt. A Certificate of Authenticity is also included.
